There is a lot of hype over the Mercedes SL retractable hard top – with optional MAGIC SKY CONTROL at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Technical pictures. Detailed engineering design articles. Car jargon that just looses me. I am a “user” and while I do praise all the people involved in the technical and aesthetic aspects of this MAGIC SKY CONTROL, my unknowledgeable under-the-hood car experience views this with other practical opportunities.
This SL offers two versions of the retractable hard top – glass or the unique panoramic roof with MAGIC SKY CONTROL. We all need the MAGIC SKY CONTROL. The transparent roof switches between light and dark at the push of a button. In the light setting it is virtually transparent, offering an open-air experience even in cold weather. In its dark state the roof provides welcome shade and prevents the interior from heating up in bright sunlight.
I hate leather seats in a car. Upon first contact in the winter the leather is freezing threatening chilblains and in the summer they are too hot, taking heated seats to an uncomfortable level when wearing a skirt. But the Mercedes SL designers are thinking of us girls. In the summer you can activate the shade when the sun is out and reduce the back of the leg burn. In the sunny winter days you can flip the lid to clear and let the sun naturally heat the seats for a nice warm bum glow. This observation needs to be tested of course but it is still a selling feature for us girls. We will be aiming to test drive the Mercedes SL in the spring episodes. Now that is what I call “MAGIC”. I just can’t help myself. (Toplessdriver eats more chocolate).
